Blog 2- Constance

My favorite part of Week 2 was meeting Bobby, who against all odds is still a  strong and wonderful pillar of the housing justice community in NYC. To hear him discuss specifically his own battle with his landlord was ridiculous. He described the landlord cutting up apartments to create more "living space" and generate more money. He also talked about the MCIs that were made to apartments, even though they were not requested by tenants and did not improve their qualities of life. The most upsetting part of it all was hearing that the MCIs hereto be paid by the tenants to the landlords. Bobby was one of the underlying catalysts for change in Albany with the 9 housing bills presented to the Assembly. It is imperative that we have people like Bobby fighting for the rights of tenants in NYC and beyond. The photo I am attaching is from our walk with Bobby. I wish we could have photographed him because he is really an amazing person!
